I-POP
The Party We Need
I’ve spent entirely too much time this week trying to come up with a catchy name for a political party that doesn’t exist. And that was before I turned my mind to writing fiction! This morning I came up with one that seemed acceptable enough, because I really think we need to get our act together, organize and right this sinking ship before she totally capsizes.
Anyway, the name I came up with was the Independent Party Of the People or I-POP for short. Like K-Pop, only for grown ups who would like to see responsibility and accountability in politics. Members of I-POP don’t have to sign any membership pledge or even do anything other than to show up, where and how they can, and vote of that is even still going to be an option. For example, these “pop-up” protests and boycotts are gaining traction everywhere, and they are People led. There’s a lot of organic growth happening at the moment. I suspect as more people begin to experience pain or fear, growth will accelerate. I-POP welcomes all, even maga refugees who have seen the light of which there are more and more as jobs are lost, programs are scrapped, people are insulted and set up for a fleecing of a lifetime.
We need to throw a party. A Party of all Parties! Bring in the passionate, the apathetic, the downtrodden, the good hearted, the fair minded, the rational, the learned, the brave, and the disillusioned. I STILL believe that a majority of people are good and kind, that most of us want the same basic things when it comes down to it. Unfortunately our majority is corruptly locked out of the power structures which are now working against us. Working to silence us. Working to steal from us. Working to eliminate us.
Some people might think that last line is a bit too extreme but I’m just reading the signals. There’s been a ramping up on Social Security propaganda, Musk calling people on SS “parasites”, talk of it imploding by Musk and the comrade in change of the Commerce Dept. Yes, parasites are circling the fund and propagating it’s demise, eager to suck it dry, but they are not the recipients who paid into it all these years. Clearly, being uber rich and aligning with the administration changes one into a parasite.
Social Security is The People’s fund paid for and sponsored by working people and their employers. We retirees have worked decades, contributing to the promise and contract of Social Security. We, the People, agreed to a social contract with our government regarding retirement and disability. The Doge-pack is eager to eliminate the disabled and the elderly. They call us ‘NPC’, for non-player character, a term from gaming, for cryin’ out loud. Our futures are being decided by game-bros who don’t know shit about real life.
We’re going to see a lot more walkers, canes and wheelchairs out at the protests! We might have to scope out the area for bathroom opportunities, we might even gather in coffee shops and bars to keep warm, we may bring snacks and water bottles. We are members of I-POP and understand the assignment (note to self: buy more ibuprofen and sunscreen).
